About Product
Badshah White Pepper Powder is a finely ground spice produced by Badshah Masala, a well-known Indian spice brand. It is derived from the dried seeds of the Piper nigrum plant, the same plant that yields black pepper. However, the processing method differs significantly, giving white pepper its unique characteristics.
Unlike black pepper, which is made from unripe, dried berries, white pepper is made from fully ripened pepper berries. The key difference lies in the removal of the outer skin (pericarp). The ripe berries are typically soaked in water for several days, allowing the outer layer to ferment and loosen. This outer layer is then rubbed off, revealing the pale, inner seed, which is then dried and ground into powder. This process results in:
Lighter color: It lacks the black specks of black pepper, making it ideal for light-colored dishes where a clean aesthetic is desired (e.g., white sauces, mashed potatoes, cream-based soups).
Milder, less complex flavor: While it still provides heat, white pepper is generally less pungent and has a slightly different flavor profile compared to black pepper. Some describe it as earthy, with subtle fermentation notes, and a sharper bite than black pepper, though it lacks the latter's depth and complexity.
Badshah White Pepper Powder offers a convenient way to add a distinct, milder peppery flavor and warmth to a wide range of dishes, especially those where the visual presence of black pepper is undesirable.
